The Saugeen Shores Police Service has more than enough money in the K-9 account to go after a new dog.
This past Saturday, close to 100 people and their dogs showed up at the leash-free dog park to take part in the Walk-a-dog-a-thon.
Close to $11,000 was raised including over $3,000 by John Divinski of 98 the Beach, who true to his promise, showed up in a dress and make-up and walked the entire 4-kilometre route.
Police Chief Dan Rivett says $7,000 is needed to purchase a new police dog and to train it.
He says the rest of the money raised will go into a reserve fund dedicated to the K-9 division expenses.
Rivett says some of the money will be spent on a heated kennel that is being built next to the police station for the new dog.
As we reported last week, it appears our new police dog is a 14-month old male German Shepherd named Agro.
The dog is being trained by Constable Andy Stewart.
The former Saugeen Shores police dog, Titan, has had to retire because of an injury and is remaining the pet dog of Constable Stewart.
