West Grey is not impressed with an idea from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Saugeen Conservation Chair Doug Freiburger says the MNR wants to contain the Durham Middle Dam due to concerns of kids jumping off it into the water below.
Freiburger says the ministry is considering a six foot fence with barbed wire across it, or even gating it off to stop kids from using it as their own personal water park.
Freiburger says West Grey officials are against the idea, mainly because of budget concerns; any price would come out of taxpayers dollars.
He says there is also concern, a fence would just force determined dam jumpers to climb higher making it even more dangerous.
Freiburger says the dam is located within the saugeen watershed; that is why West Grey wants support from the Conservation against MNR plans.
It also wants to come up with alternative ideas to make the dam safer.
