The veneer manufacturer is laying off a third of its staff.
Interforest has announced it is eliminating its clipping, grading and sorting operations at its Durham plant.
That will mean about 120 workers — or a third of the workforce — will be laid off.
There are 360 workers at Interforest in Durham.
It’s part of a restructuring move by the veneer manufacturer and most of the changes will take place by next August or September.
Officials are blaming the layoffs on the global economic crisis — which has led to increased competition, higher manufacturing costs and less demand for their product.
