The President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture is optimistic that this new minority parliament will be able to move forward on several issues important to the agricultural community.
Speaking with Bayshore Broadcasting news, Gerry Kamenz says he is pleased to see the commitment from all party leaders for an active working government which is something he says we desperately need given the economic times the country is facing.
He says those challenging economic times also have a direct bearing on the agriculture industry so its important the Government move to lessen the impact of the economic crisis.
Kamenz says what he and other agriculture officials in Ontario are pleased with the commitment by all the major parties over the course of the election campaign to implement a made in Ontario solution to deal with some the issues impacting the industry.
He says the good news is all the parties indicated they will be involved in sharing the cost of running these regionally specific programs.
Kamenz says however because of the current economic crisis, he and other agricultural officials are under no illusions that farming issues may have to take a back seat to the economy for the time being.
As for who he would like to see as the new Federal Agricultural Minister, Kamenz says they would like to see someone who is good and work on behalf of the industry.
