Huron-Bruce NDP candidate Tony McQuail and his supporters gathered in Central Huron to await poll results.
Even as the numbers overwhelmingly showed the Conservatives were likely going to take the riding — most of the McQuail campaign team held their heads high as the results kept rolling in.
McQuail officially announced his defeat at 11 PM.
Although McQuail wasn’t expected by many to gain that much ground on the Conservatives and Liberal candidates, there was a sense by many of his supporters that they did — and that it was a well fought battle.
McQuail says it’s fairly clear that a majority of Canadians wanted an alternative to Stephen Harper.
He says Stephen Harper will now get a chance to clean up the mess his government has created — whether it be in the meat-packing sector or the financial banking industry.
McQuail says Harper will now have to fork his own manure and won’t be able to leave that pile for someone else to deal with and then blame them for it.
McQuail adds there might be more creative approaches to deal with some of the issues facing Canada in a minority government.
