An estimated 200 people have taken the first step towards securing employment with the new Port Elgin Wal Mart store.
Store Manager Leandra Murphy says they’re quite pleased with the turnout after the first week of the Wal Mart job fair being held at the Guest House Inn in Southampton.
Murphy says many of the applicants have already had their first interview and she says those who make it to the next level will be contacted in the days ahead.
Meanwhile, the second week of the job fair resumes today.
The fair is open today, Thursday and Friday, 8am to 5pm and Wednesday 11am to 7pm.
Murphy says the local Wal Mart store has 150 positions open from management to cashiers.
The new Wal Mart in south Port Elgin is slated to open in the new year.
