Today is election day — but many people have already voted.
Elections Canada has released the number of people who took advantage of advance polls across the country.
Spokesperson Rejean Grenier tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they had a slightly higher voter turnout for advance polls compared to the last federal election.
In Bruce Grey Owen Sound — more than 74 hundred people voted in advance polls.
In the riding of Huron Bruce — just over 41 hundred people voted in advance polls.
In fact, Grenier says there were heavy voter turnouts in some areas including Flesherton — where people waited more than an hour to vote.
Grenier says people there were lined up before the polls opened.
Grenier feels the main reason people voted in advance polls was because voting day fell just after the Thanksgiving holiday.
Polls open at 9:30 AM and stay open until 9:30 PM.
Grenier hopes you have some patience if you run into a lineup today.
He says workers will try to move people through as quickly as possible.
