The Saugeen Shores Fire Department will have a new rescue vehicle for their Southampton station.
A new 233 thousand-dollar rescue vehicle was given approval at last night’s Council meeting.
Dependable Emergency Vehicles out of Brampton will be supplying the new vehicle after their tender was accepted.
Acting Fire Chief Phil Eagleson says they had the old rescue vehicle since 1986.
He says the old vehicle is a little underweight for their current needs, its fibreglass body can’t be replaced, and is well past its life span.
Eagleson says the new vehicle is like a big toolbox carrying tools, first aid, auto extrication, and other equipment needed at an emergency scene.
He says it will carry five fire fighters comfortably and it will be a safer vehicle to ride in.
The new rescue vehicle was under the 235 thousand dollars budgeted in 2008 from Future Capital Projects Reserve.
Eagleson says the new vehicle is expected to last about 35 years and will fit their needs once they modify the configuration of it.
