Queen’s Park has given municipalities across the province a portion of 30 million dollars set aside to get broadband service to rural areas.
Bruce County’s Lisa Lang says their first step is to find out exactly who has high speed available to them and who doesn’t.
She says everyone could get satellite internet service but next to no one can afford the thousand dollar installation fee and high monthly costs.
Lang says its important to get as many areas of the county as possible with high speed so everyone, business owners and residents, can take part in the digital economy as well as furthering their education online.
Lang says once they find their ‘dead spots’ in the county they’ll send out proposal requests to the various internet service providers and take it from there.
She says they also have a series of town hall meetings set up but have no dates yet.
If you live in Bruce County and are interested in getting access to high speed internet you can either call the Bruce County office or log on to their website at www.brucecounty.on.ca
