A special community fundraiser is set for tonight at the Kilsyth Arena.
The fundraiser is for Larry Vokes, who has ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
ALS is a fatal neuro-degenerative disease that causes muscle abilities to break down, and eventually leads to paralysis
One of the organizers Heather Spencer says she hopes alot of the family and friends can come out and see Vokes because with his health condition, he may not get the chance to see them again.
Vokes currently resides in Chatsworth and grew up in Kilsyth and Shallow Lake and also lived in Owen Sound.
Vokes is the father of 3 children and was diagnosed with the disease this past summer.
Spencer says the fundraiser will feature a benefit dance as well a silent auction.
Spencer says the dance will have 2 live bands and says the silent auction will feature over 300 items.
Some of the items include spa packages, furniture, home stereo systems and Nintendo Wii video game systems.
Spencer says the community support has been overwhelming saying so many people have come forward to not only donate items for the silent auction but as well have made cash donations.
All of the funds raised from the silent auction will go towards paying for Vokes medical expenses.
Tonight’s fundraiser goes from 8pm to 1am.
Tickets are 10 dollars and can be purchased by calling 519 371 4053 or 519 477 2657 or can be purchased at the door tonight.
