Police were taking NO chances with what looked like dynamite in Walkerton.
South Bruce OPP cordoned off an area of the Saugeen River yesterday afternoon after receiving a call about possible explosives.
Police say they received the call around 12:30 yesterday afternoon from a man who found something on the shore of the River on Saturday.
Some residents on McNabb Street were evacuated as Police called in the OPP bomb squad.
The Explosive Disposal Unit arrived at about 4:30 PM yesterday — but couldn’t tell what the explosives were because it was so badly deteriorated.
They believed it looked like dynamite and safely destroyed the object at the scene.
The remnants have been taken away for further disposal.
