Bruce Grey Owen Sound Independent MPP Bill Murdoch says the announcement that PPG was closing the Owen Sound glass plant is disheartening news.
Murdoch says the company has been good for the local economy and he had been working with the city and PPG on trying to re-invest in the plant to keep the jobs in Owen Sound.
In part, Murdoch blames the Liberals at Queens park says Dalton McGuinty has no plan to keep manufacturing jobs in Ontario.
The Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP doesn’t rule out going to the Premier to see if there is the possiblity of a bail-out, but he doesn’t hold out much hope saying it’s the economy and there is little government can do.
Day-shift workers were informed of the restructuring that left 170 employees out of work Wednesday morning.
Plant manager Tom Kloss expects the Owen Sound facility – which produces mostly residential glass – to be closed in March 2009, but says some workers will be phased out prior to that.
