Titan, the Saugeen Shores Police K-9 is retiring.
Titan has been recovering from surgery to his broken leg.
The veterinarian looking after the dogs’ recovery has told Saugeen Shores Police Titan will not be able to return to active duty because of the initial injury.
Police Constable, and Titan’s handler Andy Stewart says there are too many things that could further hurt Titan, should he stay on with the force.
Stewart says things like tracking for kilometres would cause too much pain for the dog.
He admits too, Titan is such a worker and is trained so well that if police tried to use him for any type of tracking, he would not stop until he was done; ignoring the pain.
Titan will retire and continue to live as a house dog with his handler.
About four thousand dollars was spent on Titans recovery, covered mostly through fundraising initiatives throughout the year.
Const. Stewart will be a guest on Soundingboard on Friday, September 26th at 10:45am and a special announcement will be made then.
