A new by-law in Owen Sound could mean you saying goodbye to a furry friend.
City Council wants to limit the number of cats per household to three.
The previous by-law allowed residents to own two dogs per household, but did not limit the number of cats.
Pet owners who own more than 3 unlicensed cats must get rid of them if the By-law is formally approved at council on September 22.
But if the owners have the cats registered already with the City households will be allowed to keep their feline friends.
Councillor Peter Lemon requested to review the bylaw.
He doesn’t think there should be an excessive amount of animals under one roof.
Lemon adds having several animals in a household is not only harmful for the owners, but the pets as well.
The new by-law would also restrict residents from feeding wildlife in an urban setting.
