Talking on a cell phone while driving – is comparable to driving drunk.
A new study by the Ontario Medical Association has released that information, and Huron OPP Constable Jo Anna Van Mierlo agrees.
She says it doesn’t matter how good of a driver you think you are – that it is very difficult to multi task by driving and talking on a phone, because both require concentration.
Van Mierlo points out that sometimes its the other drivers you have to worry about.
She says unless you’ve been involved in a crash – you can’t appreciate how quickly things can happen.
Even if you weren’t at fault in the incident and you happened to be talking on the phone, Van Mierlo says there is a chance you could have avoided it.
She says had you not been on the phone your full concentration would have been on the road and those driving around you.
The study released also indicated, it doesn’t matter if you have the phone in your hand or are using a hands-free model, its still dangerous.
Van Mierlo says the act of talking and not paying attention is hazardous, and recommends you pull over to make or accept a phone call.
