The City of Owen Sound is getting some extra money to help out the environment.
Mayor Ruth Lovell-Stanners has received a letter from Deputy Premier George Smitherman, announcing the city will receive 100 thousand dollars.
The Municipal Eco Challenge Fund is part of a commitment from the province to help municipalities take part in reducing our environmental footprint.
It also helps cut energy costs.
City council applied for the grant for Phase Two of renovations to the Owen Sound Police Station.
The plans integrate new energy conservation standards, which Mayor Lovell-Stanners says makes the project a wise environmental investment.
She says they’re also lessening their impact on the environment by reusing the existing building on 2nd Avenue West, instead of building a brand new facility.
