Visitors to the International Plowing Match in Teeswater had a visit from The Honourable David C. Onley yesterday.
The International Plowing Match in Teeswater is continuing with another esteemed guest on the bill.
The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario was at the IPM yesterday to tour the area and see some of the attractions.
David C. Onley says the big draw for him was the antique tractor displays, because it really brings the agriculture industry back to its roots, during a simpler time.
He says the IPM brings all Ontarians together to recognize what the province is all about in terms of our heritage.
Onley says a lot of people from the cities don’t understand what rural Ontario is all about, until they come to a Plowing Match like this.
He says events like this will hopefully encourage people in urban areas to come and take a look and get a sense of how crucial the industry is to everyone in Ontario.
Onley also says it’s great to see so many young people with an interest in the industry, as witnessed by the long line-ups of school buses waiting to drop off their kids.
Onley says one in seven people, or over 700-thousand people are involved in the agriculture industry, which accounts for 30-billion dollars of Ontario’s economy.
