The Premier is throwing his support behind the initial approval of a new hydro transmission line from the Bruce Power plant to Milton.
Dalton McGuinty says the new hydro corridor will help deal with one of the hurdles to satisfy Ontario’s energy needs.
In its decision that we first reported on Monday — the Ontario Energy Board says the project is needed to meet increased demand for transmission capacity.
McGuinty notes there is more electricity being generated from the Bruce nuclear facility in Tiverton.
But he also notes it will open the door to more renewable energy like wind power.
The Ontario Energy Board calls it the largest expansion of the province’s energy transmission system in 20 years.
But not everyone is happy with the 180 kilometre transmission line.
Hundreds of landowners in Hanover and West Grey believe the new 635 million dollar transmission line will devalue their properties and create negative health and environmental impacts.
The project still has to go through an environmental assessment and receive approval from the Environment Minister.
