Sauble Beach is in the early stages of building a town square.
Just as the 2008 summer season winds down, the Sauble Beach Chamber of Commerce is focusing on bringing a meeting place to the town.
Scott Seibert, member of the chamber’s board of directors, says they don’t have an idea of what the project will cost at this point — but says they are hoping to use all local product.
Seibert says it will be a performance pavilion for anything from plays to music.
He says they are hoping to attract more families with it.
Seibert says Sauble Beach is in need of a town square because many shows have been cancelled due to weather issues on the beach.
He says it will be a good way to deal with bad weather and wind that comes off the water front.
The pavilion will be located just South of the main street washrooms, in the parking area.
Seibert says a lot of local businesses will benefit from it being so close to the downtown core.
He says about 10 to 12 parking sites will be lost — but it is a very small negative in the big picture.
The idea of a town square came from a recommendation in a 2004 Sauble Beach revitalization report.
