Sauble Beach merchants have been working with an unpredictable summer.
Spirits and sales are still high in Sauble Beach, even though the 2008 summer season has been very uncertain.
Manager of the Cabana Beach House, Mike Graham says this summer has been a rollercoaster ride because of factors like the bad weather and high gas prices.
Graham says looking at the big picture, they haven’t had a bad season — It has just been different.
He says people are still coming to shop, they are just holding onto their wallets a bit tighter.
Graham says he is looking at trying to cater to the tourists and add in more product to help next summer.
Graham says since Sauble is a seasonal economy, it is crucial to do well and make every day count from May to October.
Linda Jackson, manager of The Seagull gift shop says this summer has not been a bad at all for sales.
The shop was enlarged in the past year and Jackson says they were able to add more variety and products.
Jackson says the renovation helped out a lot in compensating for the fact there are problems this summer.
She says with the economy being in a unsteady state, shoppers are more selective in what they buy.
Jackson also says the paid parking along Lakeshore Boulevard doesn’t help bring in more visitors.
She says the 10 dollar a day parking is a rip off and the tourists know it.
