More than 1,200 Grey Bruce families are sending their kids to school on Tuesday with everything they need to learn.
The United Way’s annual back pack collection has been an overwhelming success.
Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn says there were more than 1,200 requests for back packs and school equipment this year and they filled every single one.
She says they managed to collect close to $20,000 in cash and $10,000 worth of products.
Dobbyn says it means every student has what they need to learn and no one will be singled out or made fun of because they don’t have a brand new back pack or the proper supplies.
The United Way asked for cash donations a month earlier than usual this year in order to put in a bulk order and take advantage of money savings.
In fact it worked so well, Dobbyn says they’re going to move it up to May next year in order to buy in bulk from Canadian manufacturers and possibly get whole sale pricing.
