OPP officers are out in full force this long holiday weekend looking for the usual speeders, drunk drivers and others who break the laws on our highways.
OPP are out for a last kick at the can this summer to nab speeders, drunk drivers and others who break the laws on our highways.
It’s the final long weekend initiative for the summer, and it started at six this morning.
The theme this labour day weekend, “Back to School – Back to Work – Holiday’s Over!”
The OPP will have two aircraft up this weekend.
As usual, they will hit the highways and waterways too.
They will of course be looking for those not wearing seatbelts, and making sure kids are in proper restraints too.
Commissioner Julian Fantino says this is usually one of the most dangerous long weekends of the year on Ontario roads.
On Labour Day weekend in 2007, eleven people died on roads patrolled by provincial police while ten died in 2006 and three were killed in 2005.
Police are also taking this time to remind motorists of traffic volumes next Tuesday.
They say it will be higher than ever, as holidays are over, and school buses are back on the roads in full swing.
