They won’t be reporters from a tabloid newspaper, or con artists looking for details personal financial information.
But someone will be soon going through your garbage in you live in Owen Sound.
The city will be conducting what is called a garbage audit later this year.
Environmental Superintendent Chris Hughes says they will be taking random bags of garbage from different neighbourhoods to find out just what is being thrown out and what is being recycled.
He says a consultant will do about one hundred random homes two weeks in a row and go through the trash and recycling material, weigh it and list the various items.
Hughes says if the city is to become eligible for additional funding for recycling initiatives, they must have an waste Audit that is less than five years old and currently they do not have one.
He says people also wont be told when the audit take place because they don’t want people to change their recycling habits for the two weeks when they will examine household trash.
Hughes also says during the audit, they will not be enforcing the by law that limits how much recyclable material is allowed in household garbage.
He says once the audit is complete the city then will be in a position to apply for additional funding to expand the recycling program to include kitchen and wet waste to be used for compost.
