The bags are in!
Special reusable shopping bags are now available at merchants throughout Saugeen Shores.
Chamber of Commerce Community Relations Co-Ordinator Sally Hunt, says they ordered 5,500 of them.
They were to be here in July, but were held at customs in Vancouver for some time.
Hunt says the bags are available as part of a new environment green bags project.
She says the town is encouraging people to pick them up, in order to reduce the amount of plastic bags going to the landfill, accumulated during shopping trips.
One side of the bag is dedicated to Southampton merchants, the other to those in Port Elgin.
