We could soon see a new bridge overlooking the Kincardine harbour.
Bruce County Council at Thursday’s Highways Committee meeting agreed to enter into an agreement with Kincardine for the replacement of the Huron Terrace bridge.
The agreement calls for the County to pick up 60 percent of the cost while Kincardine will cover the remaining 40 percent.
Bruce County Engineer Brian Knox says the bridge itself will cost 2.7 million dollars but if you include the other elements that Kincardine is requesting it will bring the total to 3.19 million.
Knox says the new bridge will have a new 4-metre long sidewalk and designated bicycle lanes.
He says it is a great design and will be a beautiful feature along the waterfront.
Knox says the official by-law will be passed at September’s County Council meeting on the fourth.
He says engineers are already working on the design and that construction will begin early in 2009.
But Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer says it is far from a done deal as his Council has been split on the bridge replacement.
Many of the outstanding issues include who will be paying and the Municipality taking ownership of the bridge once it is replaced.
