Owen Sound Police, with the Drug Enforcement Section of the OPP Organized Crime Bureau have arrested and charged seven people after bringing down what they call an organized crime cell.
Owen Sound Deputy Chief Bill Sorenberger says a nine month came to a head overnight Friday, and two search warrants were executed.
Police searched a residence in Meaford, and another in Georgian Bluffs, netting 80 thousand dollars worth of marijuana, 24 thousand dollars worth of cocaine, drug paraphernalia and two vehicles.
Sorenberger says some of the pot was grown in our area, and that’s been shut down.
Investigations are continuing to find out where the rest of the drugs were coming from.
Police are alleging the ring included dealers, people who would deliver and pick up, a leader and followers.
He says the criminals were working across several jurisdictions, and that’s why city police had to work so closely with the OPP.
However, Sorenberger feels this co-operation has made a significant dent in what drugs are available in the area.
He says over the course of the nine months, the two seperate units have made 22 other drug-related arrests.
A 28 year old Meaford man and a 31 year old Blue Mountains man face charges, as well as two Georgian Bluffs men aged 24 and 28, two men from Owen Sound in their thirties, and a 43 year old Owen Sound woman.
