Public Works trucks in West Grey will soon be running a little cleaner.
Mayor Kevin Eccles says they’re going to test biodiesel in the equipment starting September 1st.
Eccles says it looks like a good deal, as they’ll save anywhere from two to six cents a litre compared with diesel fuel, and it’ll also run cleaner, creating less emissions.
Eccles says fuel efficiency isn’t the only reason they’ve decided on this trial.
He says they’re also interested in increasing the longevity of their equipment.
Eccles says the lubrication factor in biodiesel will decrease the amount of stress put on working parts of the machinery.
He says this way they’ll get more hours out of their equipment, and they’ll pay less to replace pieces less frequently.
Eccles says they’ll be testing the fuel for a full year, to see how it works in vehicles and equipment in each season.
He hopes they can spread the use of the biodiesel to their municipal police vehicles, as well as their fire trucks and equipment.
