There is a meeting on the future of downtown Kincardine.
A stakeholders’ facilitated forum will take place at the Pavilion tonight from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M..
They will be sharing ideas in working towards a vibrant downtown core.
Chair of Kincardine’s Business Improvement Area Margriet Van Erp says the impact of the development along Highway 21 is changing the face of the downtown area.
She adds development is also changing small towns along the Lake Huron shoreline.
She says her group is working hard in the beautification and promotion of downtown Kincardine.
Van Erp says it is better to work together as one unit rather than each store individually.
She says business owners feel they can’t survive because of big box stores like Wal-Mart and other large businesses coming into the area.
She says if they think of themselves as part of an urban mall then they can work together to promote the downtown as a place to go for one-stop shopping.
Van Erp says communities like Goderich, Port Elgin, and Southampton are embracing a branding that is making them stand apart from the large retailers and major highway development.
