An Owen Sound Police officer has a new role, representing about 32,000 municipal and provincial police officers.
Sergeant Bill Rusk, who serves as the President of the Owen Sound Police Association, can add another name to his resume.
He’s been elected to a three year Director position on the executive board of the Police Association of Ontario.
Rusk will serve as a representative for Ontario at the Canadian Police Association Annual General Meeting, which takes place next week in Newfoundland.
Rusk says he will be getting direction from the new president about different advisory committees he’ll be required to sit on.
Rusk has interest in two advisory groups in particular.
He says he’d like to serve on the conductive energy weapon advisory group, and he’d like to be involved in the federal allotment of money for the deploying of officers across Ontario.
Rusk says there’s always a need for more manpower, and Owen Sound is a community that struggles to get a fair share of federal funding to properly police the municipality.
Rusk says it’s been a lengthy process to get elected – the nominations happened back during the spring quarterly meeting.
He says it’s a huge honour for the Owen Sound Association for him to get this recognition.
Rusk says it speaks to where our community stands on a provincial level.
He says the officers may come from a smaller service, but they’re second to none when it comes to their personnel.
