On Soundingboard Food Safety Recall Specialist with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Garfield Balsom says his organization is conducting a thorough investigation to see if the recalled products from Maple Leaf Foods are the culprits.
That connection has not yet been made, despite the voluntary re-call by the meat processing plant in Toronto.
Balsom says the outbreak is specific to one strain of listeria and although many products have been recalled because of listeria, there is no product that is yet linked to the outbreak.
Nevertheless Balsom says the named recalled products should not be consumed.
A complete list of the products is listed at CFIA’s website, www.inspection.gc.ca
So far there have been no reported cases of the disease in Bruce, Grey or Huron Counties.
