Weapons charges in Owen Sound and Grey County have spiked in the last seven years.
An analysis by The Canadian Press of provincial criminal charges found the number of weapons charges skyrocketed between 2000 and 2007.
Weapons charges doubled in the Owen Sound area since 2000, rising to 90 charges last year.
The Owen Sound and Grey County region also experienced one of the largest spikes in drug possession charges in Ontario — hitting 280 last year, up from 166 in 2000.
Violent crime charges remained relatively stable — hovering around 570 counts last year — and sexual assault charges were also virtually unchanged at 38.
Owen Sound and Grey County also saw a drop in the number of people charged with impaired driving — down from 361 charges in 2000 to 320 last year.
The Owen Sound courthouse also has one of the shortest court waits in the province.
It took just over three months — 116 days on average — for a charge to be resolved in Owen Sound court last year.
