A new medical clinic for Brockton is coming within reach.
Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee, Maurice (Morris) Donnelly, says they’re more than halfway to their goal – and they’re only one year into their efforts.
He says last year they came up with a five year plan to raise two million dollars toward the new clinic.
As of the end of July, Donnelly says they’ve already raised one million, 480 thousand dollars.
And as far as plans go for the new building, Donnelly says demolition of the old nurses’ residence beside the Walkerton hospital is underway, and should be complete by the end of August.
Donnelly says after that, the Ministry of Health can review the plans for a new medical clinic.
He hopes to be able to start building it and have it done by September of 2009.
Donnelly says it’s important to provice a medical centre for the doctors that are in the municipality, and for new doctors they’re looking to recruit.
He says it will also house the Brockton Family Health Team, which has been operating now for the past year.
He says the Family Health Team will also service medical clinics in Midmay and Paisley.
Donnelly says he’s thrilled with how well their fundraising efforts have been going thus far.
