There are many of our listeners who are not happy about the honour for Doctor Henry Morgentaler.
He is scheduled to receive the Order of Canada in October.
But there are many of our listeners who feel the decision should be reversed.
In fact, 77 per cent of the respondents to our recent internet news poll feel the 84 year old Morgentaler should not receive Canada’s top civilian honour.
Many respondents are passionate about the rights of a preborn child and don’t feel Morgentaler should receive the honour.
Others point to the fact he was convicted of criminal charges and they don’t believe that qualifies him for Canada’s top civilian honour.
But of the 23 per cent of respondents who support the award, they point to the years of service in caring for the needs of women.
Many also feel he gave up his freedom to devote his life for the rights of women.
More than 200 people responded to the two week internet survey.
