A nine year old girl who fell ill to Ecoli in Saugeen Shores is now doing well in hospital.
But, the Grey Bruce Health Unit still doesn’t know why she is sick.
The nine year old girl is responding well to medication in a London hospital and her condition has improved after falling ill to Ecoli this week.
It happened while the family was vacationing in Port Elgin.
Her identity and the name of her hometown are not being released — but the family was not from Grey Bruce.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit still has not been able to pinpoint the source of the infection — and more tests are being done today.
Medical Officer of Health, Doctor Hazel Lynn, says they are looking at the girl’s younger sister, who was mildly ill last week.
But Doctor Lynn notes it is also common to contract ecoli by eating undercooked hamburger.
The Health Unit has taken samples from the municipal water system and tests have shown no problems.
But Health Unit staff are taking more water samples along the beach in Port Elgin and Southampton today.
But Doctor Lynn says you would have to ingest a lot of water to fall ill to Ecoli.
