The International Upper Great Lakes study held public meetings in Owen Sound and Collingwood yesterday looking into declining water levels on Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and Lake Michigan.
John Harrison of Community Foundation Grey Bruce and the Grey County Environmental Forum feels there is still a lot to learn especially when it comes to evaporation effects on the Great Lakes.
He says its the area where researchers have the least amount of hard data to work with.
Mary Muter of the Georgian Bay Association says those who live along the shorelines know we’ve had record lows for the past eight years until this year.
Muter says however while Lake Huron has risen 6-8 inches this year.
Under the same conditions Superior increased by 16 inches.
She says no one can figure out why.
Part of the report will be completed next year while the final document is expected to take another four years.
