Another environmental film festival is being held on the Bruce Peninsula.
The Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory and Bruce Peninsula Environment Group are partnering up to present the week-long festival starting tonight.
The theme of this years festival is “The Cost of Greed”.
Four documentaries will be shown — The World According to Monsanto AND Planting with the Planet in Mind (tonight) , Thirst (Wednesday), and Escape from Suburbia: Beyond the American Dream.
Planting with the Plant in Mind is a locally made student documentary, and will kick off the festival.
It was created by four students at Bruce Peninsula District Highschool in Lion’s Head.
For the classic movie portion of the festival, organisers have chosen “The Searchers” on Sunday, “Solyent Green” on Tuesday and the festival ends Saturday August 16th with a presentation of “Mr. Smith goes to Washington”.
Associate Professor of Environmental Ethics at the University of Toronto Dr. Stephen Scharper will introduce the film and lead discussions afterwards.
All of the films will be shown at the Anglican Church Hall in Lion’s Head, with the exception of “Thirst” and “Planting with the Planet in Mind”.
Those two will be presented at the National Park Visitor Centre.
Passports can be purchased for the entire festival, and individual tickets are available as well.
Proceeds from the festival will support the Bruce Peninsula Bird Observatory’s Migration Monitoring Program at the Cabot Head Research Station.
