Inverhuron Provincial Park has been a hot spot lately, but for all the wrong reasons.
Kincardine Fire Chief Jamie McKinnon told a meeting with South Bruce OPP yesterday (THURS) that eight small fires have been set over the past month near the Rainbow Bridge at the very south end of the park.
That portion of the park is largely undeveloped except for some hiking paths.
There hasn’t been any major problems but McKinnon says the last blaze did burn a 40-square foot area.
He says if one of the fires gets out of control it could put hikers and campers in peril.
McKinnon says because they’re seeing multiple locations of fires being set, it could mean they’re dealing with someone who’s going to do it again and that could lead to a bigger fire eventually.
South Bruce OPP and the Kincardine fire department are asking for your help.
If you see any type of suspicious behaviour near Rainbow Bridge to give police or Crimestoppers a call.
South Bruce OPP Community Services and Media Relations officer Jim Conrad advises that the setting of fires could lead to a mischief, a mischief endangering life, or a charge of arson under the Criminal Code of Canada.
