A park in Southampton is being renamed after a late conservationist.
Saugeen Shores Council has agreed to a recommendation by Director of Community Services Mike Myatt to rename Fisherman’s Park to The Grant Ferris Fisherman’s Park.
Myatt says the recommendation of renaming Fisherman’s Park came from many of Ferris’ friends and associates including Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Murdoch, Arnie Clark from the Sydenham Sports Association, and Andrew Tapp.
Myatt says Ferris dedicated his life to the betterment of conservation and the community.
He says Ferris belonged to many groups such as the Lake Huron Fishing Club, Ontario Association of Anglers and Hunters, and the Sydenham Sports Association.
Myatt says there will be an unveiling of a sign that will take place in either September or October.
He doesn’t expect it to be a big ceremony but says there will be people who share the same passion as Ferris in attendance.
Ferris passed away back in December of 2007.
