Organizers of the Lucknow Reunion are finally able to take a break after months of intensive preparation and four action-packed days of the event.
The Reunion which also marked the town’s 150th Anniversary went off without a hitch this past weekend.
Co-chair Joan Chamney says there’s still some work to do in wrapping everything up.
Chamney says much of the work for the army of volunteers involves cleaning up in places like the Community Centre, Arena and Caledonia Park which were the focus of many Reunion activities.
Chamney says her organizing committee couldn’t have ordered better conditions for the huge party.
She says the weather co-operated and there were good crowds at all venues and people were well-behaved.
Chamney says there isn’t an accurate attendance count yet, but by Friday volunteers at the registration tables had already counted several thousand visitors with still two days to go.
Chamney says everyone got into the spirit of the weekend and many people travelled to Lucknow from places like BC and many locations in the United States.
She says it was gratifying to witness the greetings of old friends and school classmates who hadn’t seen each other in many years.
The Lucknow Reunion organizers can rest easy for a while now.
The next such event will be held in 2018, marking the commmunity’s 160th birthday.
