The new Dean at Georgian College in Owen Sound is no stranger to the City.
Bob Emptage has enjoyed a cottage on the Bruce Peninsula for almost 40 years, his parents are from Meaford and he has relatives in the Owen Sound area.
Emptage has been promoted from Dean of Engineering Technology in Barrie to Dean of the Owen Sound campus — and he calls it “a bit of a homecoming.”
Emptage says the job is exciting one — and he points to the multi million dollar upgrades of the Marine Institute with the installation of world class simulators.
He says the facility that will be completed in the fall will put Owen Sound and Georgian College on the world map.
But Emptage tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are also looking to add new diploma and apprenticeship programs.
Emptage says they have been discussing opportunities with City Council and local industry — including Bruce Power — for more than a year.
He also notes there is a demand for health care professionals and skilled trades people.
Emptage hopes to make an announcement about new programs this fall.
Emptage begins the job in Owen Sound after the Civic holiday in August.
He says that is when he will get to know the College staff and community partners.
Emptage has been with Georgian College for the last seven years and says he went after the Owen Sound Dean position.
