Marine and Rail Heritage Day is set for July 26th at the Owen Sound Marine and Rail Museum.
Manager Mary Smith says events actually kick off a few days beforehand, with “Trainman for a Day” today.
Smith says an actual former CP conductor will be on site talking about the work of conductors and will give tours of the caboose.
Tomorrow the Museum will be premiering a film called “Wheels and Water – Growth of a Port”.
It features a collection of interviews with area seniors who grew up in Owen Sound when it was a booming port and witnessed the boats and trains coming into the city.
One of two tall ships will be arriving in Owen Sound on Friday.
Smith says “the Playfair” will sail into the harbour at about 6:30 PM.
The Pathfinder is still under repair.
Saturday will feature tours of the ship, as well as an appearance by the CN mascot “Obie” — a miniature train on wheels.
There will also be military demonstrations, costumed guided museum and caboose tours, and lots more.
Also, there will be kid’s corner craft area and face painting.
Admission on Saturday is by donation.
