The six unit building at the south end of Wiarton on Berford Street is specifically designed for residents with developmental disabilities.
The Bruce Peninsula Association for Community Living says there was a need for this type of housing in the community.
Executive Director Libby Ipsen says the housing is accessible and safe for individuals who are not able to find suitable accommodations.
She says the residents seem to like their new home.
Construction began in August of last year and the first residents moved into the apartment building on May 15th.
The project finished within its budget at a cost of about 770 thousand dollars.
It was funded through government loans, fundraising and donations.
The individuals chosen to live in the apartment building were already residents of the community and received support from Community Living.
The rent is determined by the person’s income.
