Canada Day has long since past, but fireworks will be going off at South Bruce Peninsula municipal offices later this morning.
That is when a group of Sauble Beach business people will present a petition to council calling for a reduction in the paid parking fee at Sauble Beach.
The petition contains more than one hundred names and says the 10 dollar flat rate for parking at the beach is scaring off tourists and hurting local businesses.
Jerry Blair, owner of Sauble Beach Amusements says the parking fee is driving away tourists in a season already struggling with high fuel prices and a cool, wet start to summer.
He says they will be presenting their petition at 11 am at the Municipal offices in an effort to convince council that the parking fee is making a day trip to the beach too expensive.
In fact Blair says its the day tripper from Grey Bruce who have decided the 10 dollar fee is just not worth it for several hours at the beach.
Councillor Mark Wunderlich says although the Municpality, County and Province try to attract tourists to this area, the fee is driving then away to other beaches.
He says if Sauble Beach is to compete with areas like Grand Bend or Wasaga Beach, then the parking fee must be reduced or totally eliminated
