A list of regulations for the formation of a by-law at the dog park on the former Port Elgin landfill site was accepted at a recent Saugeen Shores Council meeting.
Paws Awhile Dog Park spokesperson Abby Bolton says it is important to govern the activities of both dogs and humans that use the park.
She says if they are going to take this seriously then they must do what they can to make both dogs and their owners safe.
Bolton says the rules for the dog park include picking up after your dog, no smoking because of the possibility of methane gas present, and the consumption of food or drinks is prohibited as they may cause dogs to become erratic.
Bolton says her committee went through the by-laws of other dog parks when establishing their own.
She says she uses London Ontario’s dog park by-law as a model because the park is well run and has very few reports of incidents.
The dog park is scheduled to open on August 2nd.
