Premier Dalton McGuinty is quoted as saying he is rethinking a promise to ensure gasoline sold in the province contains 10 per cent ethanol fuel by 2010.
He is revising the commitment in light of concerns that the biofuel is driving up the cost of food.
But McGuinty wouldn’t say whether he’s also rethinking the government’s policy of purchasing vehicles that can accept 85 per cent ethanol fuel.
GreenField Ethanol vice-president Bliss Baker tells Bayshore Broadcasting news, he is not concerned the Premier is back-peddling on the issue.
Baker says he has received assurances from McGuinty’s office he is committed to bio-fuels, although the government is looking for different ways to achieve the same goal.
Greenfield Ethanol has plants in Tiverton and Chatham producing Ethanol for the Ontario market.
Baker says the Ontario facilities weren’t built based on the government’s plan anyway.
The Vice President of Corporate affairs dismisses concerns that Ethanol is pushing up world food prices.
Baker blames those increases solely on the soaring cost of Oil.
