It appears many of our listeners do not have faith in the province’s latest plan to help curb smoking.
According to our latest internet news poll…many people do not feel covering power walls will stop kids from buying cigarettes.
The McGuinty government introduced legislation at the end of May to ban the display of cigarettes.
Those large displays in stores — also known as power walls — are now covered.
The Ministry of Health Promotion points to research that suggests it can help prevent young people from starting to smoke.
Only 17 per cent of the respondents to our recent internet news poll believe it will work — they feel the motto “out of sight, out of mind” works in this case.
But the other 83 per cent of the respondents feel young people will still smoke because they see and hear about it in movies, advertising and other media venues.
Others suggest people will still know what is hidden behind the large displays that are now covered up.
There were a total of 106 responses to the recent news poll.
