Some people in the Walkerton area using well water as their primary source of drinking might want to get that well tested.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit says water samples from a monitoring well in the Vicinity of Walkerton has shown higher than allowable levels of sodium and nitrates in the aquifer.
Manager of Health Protection Lou D’Alessandro says homeowners near these wells at Brant Township lot 1, concession 1 should have their wells tested for sodium.
He says that elevated levels of sodium in their drinking water may affect individuals with hypertension or high blood pressure.
D’Alessandro also says people with small children or babies should avoid using their well water if there are elevated levels of nitrates in it and should used bottled water instead.
He says the health unit sends out these advisories when the levels of Sodium are slightly higher than the accepted levels identified in the Ontario Drinking Water Standards.
