Owen Sound Council has approved a draft proposal for a new residential development for the former OSCVI property.
The proposal calls for a 60 lot residential subdivision by Barry’s Construction will have 9 single detached homes and 51 townhouses.
The 2.69 hectares of property is located on the former OSCVI property on 5th Avenue East between 10th Street and 9th Street East.
A unique part of the agreement is council has the architectural control of the exterior look of the development to make sure it fits with the neighbourhood.
Mayor Ruth Lovell says the control is very important because many residents in the area were concerned about the design.
Lovell says council will make sure this development maintains the same architectural look of the other residential units in the area.
This new municipal power came into effect earlier this year as part of an amendment to the Ontario Planning Act.
Councillor Deb Haswell says from day one when this proposal was brought forward, one of the main concerns from the public is the look of the development.
Haswell says this is an exciting development because Council is exercising its architectural control for the first time ever.
Council will vote on the application at their next meeting on July 28th.
