Owen Sound Council is still looking to save a part of St. Mary’s High School.
Council has approved the intent to move forward with a designation of the 1891 portion of St. Mary’s High School under the Ontario Heritage Act.
Councillor Deb Haswell says it’s now up to the public and residents to come forward with comments and concerns on the fate of the historic building.
The Bruce Grey Catholic District Board does not have the finances to repair and maintain the 1891 structure and the province is not offering any assistance – only new construction dollars are available.
Council has approved the zoning amendment to allow the school to expand.
The school board will use a residential property next to the school to construct 10 additional classrooms.
