The strike is over for 27 office and clerical workers at the Grey Bruce Health Unit.
The Board of Health for the Health Unit voted unanimiously today to accept the contract with OPSEU Local 276 and it’s 27 clerical staff.
The OPSEU members voted 82 per cent in favour of the contract on Friday.
The three year contract, retroactive to November 1st 2007, provides for a 10.6 per cent increase over the life of the agreement.
There are three per cent increases in the first two years, with an additional one per cent increase in the final four months of year one and year two, and a four per cent increase in the final year.
The contract also makes adjustments in the provision of vision care benefits.
Board of Health Chair Larry Kraemer says it was difficult time during the strike but is happy to see things are over.
Kraemer says it’s great to have the workers back just in time for the Health Unit’s move into their new building.
Medical Officer of Health Hazel Lynn says the strike was emotional time for everyone at the Health Unit and says there are hard feelings.
Lynn says there are always hard feelings when someone is personally attacked and says it will take some time for trust and respect to come back.
The 27 workers in Owen Sound and Walkerton are expected back to work on Thursday.
They have been off the job since May 1st.
